Infant Overview

Our infant program is designed to provide a nurturing and individualized approach to care, recognizing that each baby thrives through strong, consistent relationships with their caregivers. With close proximity to their educators, predictable routines, and responsive care, infants feel secure and confident as they explore their surroundings.

We encourage uninterrupted, self-directed play in a supportive environment, allowing infants to develop creativity, independence, and curiosity from their earliest months. Physical development is a key focus during this stage, so we provide ample freedom for movement within our safe and engaging indoor spaces, allowing babies to strengthen their growing bodies while feeling supported and nurtured.

Daily Rhythm

Infants begin their journey highly dependent on their parents and caregivers for individualized attention and care. At Stepping Stones, we work closely with families to understand each child’s natural rhythm, ensuring a smooth and comforting transition between home and our care.

Arrival & Drop-Off

Each morning, parents sign their infant in and help them settle in for the day. Parents are welcome to spend a few moments with their child, sharing updates from the night and any special instructions with the caregiver. When the child feels comfortable, they transition to a caregiver’s lap or the play area, and their day begins.

Morning Play

Every infant follows their own schedule, engaging in activities based on their individual needs. During the morning, children may explore the room, be fed, diapered, interact with caregivers, or enjoy cuddles and lullabies. Feeding is always an intimate experience—infants are held for bottles and early lap feedings before gradually transitioning to small chairs for individual meals and, eventually, low tables for social snack times as they approach toddlerhood.

Afternoon Play

Similar to the morning, the afternoon is filled with exploration, movement, and sensory play. The play space is designed to support physical development, offering objects to grasp, pull up on, and manipulate. Caregivers engage with infants through songs, stories, and one-on-one interactions, fostering a sense of security and connection. Feeding continues on an individualized schedule, with children transitioning to more independent mealtime experiences as they grow.

Departure & Pick-Up

As the day winds down, infants are fed and diapered in preparation for pick-up. Quiet activities such as finger plays, books, songs, and free play help create a calm atmosphere. Caregivers share updates with parents, providing insights into the child’s day before they transition back home.
